Beautiful Balinese made vintage pendant. The stone is natural mother of pearl / abalone, bezel set. Surrounded by an intricate rope accent. Posterior is smooth and shiny. Bail is also sterling, it tapers down a bit. Marked as sterling and tested positive as such. Very pretty piece. Mother of pearl, or nacre, is an organic gem known for its iridescent beauty, formed from layers of calcium carbonate and conchiolin. It possesses gemological properties including a range of colors (whites, creams, blues, pinks, greens), an opalescent sheen from light refraction, and a low hardness of 2.5–4.5 on the Mohs scale.
